Church

We had been in church limbo for a few years now.  Attending here – attending there – irregular at our best.  Had been a faithful attender for years – enter mess – mire…etc.  Quit going.  Was very feed up with church.  Head deacon to non-attender.  Explain that one.

Fast forward.  Finally found a church we loved.  Called about joining the church – to make it all official.  Had to go down front yesterday.  Feeling better.

Charity

I believe we have a responsibility to help others.  Those less fortunate than ourselves.  Want to see a good video explaining why?  Check this video out from Compassion International.  Compassion is one of my favorite charities, I also like, IFCJ, and Soles4Souls.   I know this is not a typical post for this blog – but giving is so important.  If you want to live a rewarding life – give back part of what you have been given.

Updates

I wanted to give you – my faithful 2 readers an update on the status of this blog.  Starting tomorrow I am going to start doing some category posts.  These will be regular weekly posts – tomorrow we will start off with Tech – Tuesday.  I know, original huh?  That’s all I got for you on a Monday.   Monday will usually be Financial information.  I’ll try this setup for a while and we will see how it all goes.

Photography

I downloaded Photomatrix and have been trying my hand at HDR photography.  Not liking the results too much.  It has been an over cast day – so not really good for ‘stunning’ photos.

I’ll try it again on the next sunny day.

Snow

They just  mentioned on tv that we could see some snow.  I am ready for spring.  Seems like it has been a long winter.

Aquarium

I get a good bit of hits on this blog from some older posts regarding a fish tank I had set up.

It’s time for an update and a few links as well.

The aquarium is still doing great.  The center piece in it decoration wise is a piece of Malaysian driftwood – with java fern growing on it.  Since that is the only live plant I have in my aquarium – there is no need for extra CO2.  I do use Flourish Excel and some iron supplementation – but that is about it.

Java Fern

A few months back I dropped a piece of Malaysian driftwood in to my tank.  Tied to it were two very healthy looking java ferns.  Since then those two plants have grown like crazy.  They are producing “plantlets” (for lack of a better term) constantly.  Java Fern has to be one of the easiest plants to keep in an aquarium.

More Aquarium

I really didn’t like the way my last aquarium setup came out.  Recently I redid most of it.  I pulled out the artificial log and replaced it with Malaysian driftwood.  I planted two java ferns and added a moss ball.

A little history.  This is a 30 gallon “inherited” aquarium.  I did get it empty.  After cleaning it and filling it up with water, gravel, and a few fake plants.  I added some fish to it.  It was going great.  I never lost a fish.  But the water always looked like crap, despite frequent water changes.  I finally gave in and replaced the hang on the back filter with a Fluval 205.  This made a world of difference.  The water stays crystal clear now.

Site to Store

With baby 2.0 here now – we needed a new stroller.  One that would accommodate child 1 and  child 2.  I searched low and a I searched high.  I finally found a BabyTrends stroller that I liked.  Walmart.com had a decent deal.  I should mention this is my first encounter with Walmart.com.  As I was checking out I was offered two options.  Number one I could have the big brown truck bring it to my front door for a mere$15.   Or I could have it shipped to my local Walmart for free.  I chose free.  But free wasn’t really free.

I received an email from Walmart.com that my order had made it to my local store.  I was to go there and proceed to the Site to Store pickup location.  In our store the Site to Store area was in the back where layway used to be.

Guess what? It’s not really free.  Sure the shipping is free.  But I had to stand in line for almost an hour to get my one box.  People were packed in there.  There was one guy working the counter.  His job was to also get the merchandise from the back as well.  A very nice kid – but geez he needed some help back there.

Lesson learned.  When it comes to Walmart – free shipping, is never free.
